MDARD Cottage Food Label Checklist
- Strict 11-Point Font Rule:
Unlike most states that allow small 6pt text, Michigan requires the entire label (or at minimum the statement below) to be printed in at least 11-point font size (~1/8 inch tall) in a high-contrast color:
"Made in a home kitchen that has not been inspected by the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development" - Sub-Ingredient Rule: If you use pre-packaged ingredients (like semi-sweet chocolate chips or store-bought butter), you must break down their sub-ingredients in parentheses on the label.
- Dual Net Weight: Must state net weight in both US Customary ounces/pounds and metric equivalents (e.g.,
Net Wt 16 oz (453g)).
